About the artist—

James Moog’s paintings explore the relationship between experiences of visual space through compositions defined by color, texture, and shape.

James is fascinated by the active aspects of looking and deeply considers the emotional and spiritual effects of image-making. He works mainly in acrylic watercolor, and encaustic on canvas, panels, and paper.

The artist is fascinated by the material considerations of his craft and seeks to combine intuition and analysis to create emotional landscapes for the viewer.

He has been inspired by the meditative perspective of East Asian landscapes, which allow the viewer to travel while lying down. This feeling of being drawn out of oneself is critical to his process-oriented work. A successful work crystallizes into a harmonic image without sacrificing the tensions between the forms within.
